The Biblio Files: Swann Dives In

Yes, I'm back with a new review for you guys!

Synopsis:
"Swann Dives In"  by Charles Salzberg is the tale of Henry Swann, PI.
After a particularly intense case that nearly kills him, Swann leaves the fast paced career of a PI for the simpler and vastly more mundane life of a cable guy.  However, when the chance to make some easy money on what appears to be an open and shut case comes along, Swann can't resist.  What begins as routine quickly takes Swann to the upper echelons of society, the competitive world of academia and the rare book trade.  A missing girl, saucy librarian and occasional murderer make for plenty of twists and turns as Swann attempts to solve the many complex cases born from one seemingly simple trace.

Review:
Truthfully, this book was hard for me to get into to.  I'm a sucker for the easy sell that hooks me right from the beginning and this just didn't do that for me. Also, being the sequel to a book I have never read made me feel like I was missing something. However, I stuck with Swann because he is cynical, world weary and witty as hell.  A cross between Clint Eastwood and Sam Spade, Henry Swann grows on you.  Once the plot thickened and colorful characters came out of the woodwork I was finally able to be drawn into Swann's world.

Bottom Line: This book seems better suited for a different demographic. Namely, not females in their twenties with Vampire Diaries in their Netflix queue.
