So, I'm sure you've all been wondering where I am, no? Well, right at this very second I'm simultaneously blogging and shopping for a swimmer that will allow me to go the water park here. Maybe this saucy little number?
Don't get me wrong, I really think I could rock this baby. In black I think I would look really sleek, like cat-woman. Or a water ninja.
Yeah, so the Japanese aren't so keen on tattoos. They associate them with the Yakuza, a Japanese organized crime organization who tattoo their bodies and show them off as a form of intimidation. I personally haven't noticed much of a reaction to my tattoos from Japanese people, but obviously that's because they're terrified of me.
*Hide yo wife, hide yo kids...*
The Yakuza don't have much a presence here in Okinawa, but there is one "red-light district" here and it's rumored that the Yakuza operate it. (And yes, I started that rumor.)
Okay, but beyond that here's a quick update of my life here:
Peanut got a turtle and named it Yoshi.
RIP, Yoshi.
Japanese Titanic condoms.
I'm sorry, but that's funny. (And I'm not sorry.)
Sushi dates and extra weight. At this point the only plausible way I will lose this jiggle is if I'm cast on the next Survivor.
Survived another typhoon and watched Spouse longingly watch the resulting surf. (His boards came 2 days after he left for training, the poor bastard.)
Started my garden! All the Japanese ladies in my neighborhood garden every day for HOURS in their adorable floppy hats. I was tired of feeling left out.
My house went from barren to bursting at the seams. (In addition to tattoos the Japanese are not too keen on storage space.)
I am currently blogging at the library just to avoid more unpacking.

Well I think your tattoos are really pretty. I've always thought there's a very definite difference between TRASHY and TRULY ARTISTIC when it comes to tattoos. Obvs yours are pretty.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that turtle is freaking cute
RIP Yoshi! :( And you always looked a lil shady to me...didn't realize it was organized crime though..I'm impressed, Madame!!
ReplyDeleteI did a post about the tattoo/waterpark thing earlier this summer. The only one I can't easily cover is the one on my ankle, so I wasn't too worried. Poor husband didn't get to come. There is no easy way to cover his arms, except to wear long sleeves. I've thought about buying him a long sleeve rash guard, but just haven't gotten around to it. We stick to the beach.
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome that you are seen as a member of the Yakuza. I always knew there was something sketchy about you.
ReplyDeleteI am seriously envious of your sushi. And also, your garden. How are the kids taking to Japan?
ReplyDeleteYou could so rock the head-to-toe swimwear! Then again...why not just shake things up and flash your cool tattoos?! Sorry about Yoshi!!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better, I had a friend who worked in Japan for a few years and he said that in most big cities the tattoo thing doesn't apply to Americans and people who aren't Japanese! I imagine Okinawa is the same. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having an amazing time.
ReplyDeleteMuch love: http://razzledazzleandrocknroll.blogspot.co.uk/ If you fancy a follow or a nosey. xx
I personally love your tattoos, they look so colorful and fun, Surprising it's not a Japanese thing though (: Ps. Yoshi was the cutest turtle
ReplyDeletePoor Yoshi. I laughed out loud about the condoms. Please tell me you've seen engrish.com
